“We were making a big, loud, exciting racket, doing our own songs.
It sounded strange and familiar all at once, and we were high on it.”
– PETER CASE, THE NERVES
These recordings have been heavily bootlegged in the past 50 years since the band’s debut EP in 1976. However, Best Collection, is the first time these songs have been remastered from the original analog tapes and overseen by surviving members of the band. It sounds fantastic! Also included are some rare live cuts and demos. This is the ultimate way to hear The Nerves. As always, Third Man Records has knocked it outta the park.
Formed in 1974 by Jack Lee, Peter Case, and Paul Collins, The Nerves became a foundational power pop trio known for pairing proto-punk energy with jangly melodies and a fiercely independent DIY ethos. Despite securing a legacy with their landmark 1976 EP—which featured Lee’s “Hanging on the Telephone,” later popularized by Blondie—and mounting an ambitious self-booked national tour, creative tensions disbanded the group just before the new wave boom broke. All three members subsequently launched influential projects of their own (including The Plimsouls and The Beat), and Third Man’s The Nerves – Best Collection now gathers and remasters their brief but indelible catalog five decades later.
