I was recently chatting with Clay Jones about the early 1990’s music scene in Oxford, and he mentioned a CD compilation from the time called Mississippi’s Dreaming! The album was compiled by local label Fishtone Records, which was based in Oxford and run by Mark Roberts and Alfie Faulkner and associated with Oxford’s record shop at the time, Gin Alley Compact Discs, located on the Square. The CD was released in 1993 and features a nice dose of Mississippi’s early 1990’s rock scene with Oxford being the main spotlight. There’s not much information online regarding the release. There’s not much information online regarding the Oxford (or Mississippi for that matter!) music scene in general from this time period.
I reached out to my pal, Tim Lee, who is featured on the record and luckily he had a copy he could loan the shop (Thanks Tim!). We’re going to work on getting this music back out into the world but, for now, swing by the shop and we’ll throw it on the stereo for anyone wanting to listen.
If you’ve got any cool stories regarding this release or this time period in Oxford please reach out via email at endofallmusic@gmail.com. We’d love to help spread the word and continue the chat.
Check out the track list below. I’m sure you’ll recognize some names in the credits!
